About Us
What is the Family Caregiver Program?

The Older Americans Act of 2000 established the National Family Caregiver Program to help families with their roles as caregivers. The federal Administration on Aging has provided funding to each state to develop a multifaceted support system for family caregivers.

KIPDA with funding from the Kentucky Division of Aging Services has established a family caregiver program for the seven county areas of Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Oldham, Shelby, Henry and Trimble.

The basic criteria for eligibility for the Family Caregiver Program are:
  • You are a Caregiver providing care for someone 60 years of age or older.
  • You are a Grandparent or relative Caregiver 55 years of age or older caring for a child age 18 or younger.
  • You are a individual age 60 years or age or older providing care to an individual age 18 or younger with Mental and/or Developmental Disabilities.
What is Caregiving and Who are Kentucky’s Family Caregivers?

We are family, friends and neighbors who stand by those we love as they face chronic illness or disability.

We share a common bond with each other despite the fact that some of us care for our spouses, which others care for parents, children or siblings, and despite the fact that we deal with a wide array of medical conditions and diagnoses.

We are a diverse group of people of all ages and from all walks of life, some new to caregiving, some just anticipating becoming caregivers and others for whom it has become a way of life.
